Police Search for Possible Serial Robbery

Police in Collin County are looking for what may be a serial robber. Police say a man with the same description as a man who robbed a Costco in Frisco at gunpoint last week may be behind robberies at two McKinney businesses and the robbery of an elderly couple.

McKinney police announced Saturday morning that there has been an arrest in a recent string of robberies in Collin County.

The McKinney Police Department and members of the US Marshal East Texas Task Force arrested 59-year-old Benjamin Sanchez in connection with the recent aggravated robberies in McKinney. Sanchez was arrested at the Value Place motel in the 3400 block of N. Central Expressway just after 10 p.m. Friday.

Sanchez is in the Collin County jail, his bond was set at $100,000.

McKinney police say the public provided information that made the arrest possible.

Police believe Sanchez may be responsible for at least five robberies and attempted robberies in the past six weeks.

Police released surveillance video Friday hoping for the public's help identifying the robber when they said the armed robberies began to escalate.

"He is becoming more threatening, even threatening to kill if necessary," Deputy Chief Kim Malolepszy said Friday.

Police said a man matching Sanchez's description robbed a McKinney Subway restaurant, a Frisco Costco store and the same Cash Now location twice.

Investigators said the same man tried to rob the Cash Now store a third time, but employees recognized him and were able to lock him out thanks to newly installed security measures. The robber also attempted to rob an elderly couple sitting in their vehicle in the parking lot of the McKinney Post Office according to police.

Police said the robberies all occurred between noon and 5 p.m.

NBC 5's Catherine Ross contributed to this report.
