A woman was killed Wednesday morning in a fire at her home in south Fort Worth.

The fire was reported at about 1:15 a.m. at a home in the 700-block of East Roberts Street, just south of the Morningside Drive exit of Interstate 35W.

The victim, Maritta Brown, 75, was found unconscious on a couch in the living room of the home she was renting, according to fire officials.

According to Tom Crow of the Fort Worth Fire Department, paramedics performed CPR on Brown at the scene before rushing her to John Peter Smith Hospital.

When Brown arrived at the hospital, the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed Brown had died.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but investigators do not suspect anything suspicious, according to Crow.
