Multiple fire departments responded Tuesday to an explosion and fire at an oil storage facility in northeast Texas that has injured two people.
According to information from the Van Zandt County Fire Marshal, Chuck Allen, the facility is on state Highway 110 north of Van, Texas.
Around 3 a.m., emergency responders got a call about a fire at an oil well. Multiple fire departments are actively trying to contain the fire. There are five large storage tanks at the facility, two of which have already exploded and were on fire. The fire marshal is working to identify which company owns the storage facility.
Two burn victims, both 24-years-old, were transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital, according to information from Van Zandt fire officials.
The two victims were allegedly smoking on top of storage tanks when they exploded, according to Allen.
One of the victims, a 24-year-old female, is reportedly on life support, while the other, a 24-year-old male, has burns to his face, chest, and arms.
The names of both the victims are being withheld until next of kin is notified. Neither person was identified to be employees of the oil company responsible for the facility.
NBC 5 has crews on the way and we'll update this story with more information as soon as it's available. As this story is developing, elements may change.
