The Mesh Mask Bandit is believed to have pulled off another heist.

FBI officials say they believe the bank robber dubbed Mesh Mask Bandit robbed a Plano Chase Bank on Tuesday afternoon.

It would tie the man to 18 North Texas bank robberies, the FBI said.

The first robbery happened on New Year's Eve.

The latest robbery happened at about 1:30 p.m. at the Chase Bank in the 5000 block of West Park, a Plano investigator said.

The robber walked into the bank with his gun drawn and ordered everyone on the ground, the investigator said. With his trademark mask covering his face, he grabbed money from the tellers and then sneaked out the south entrance of the bank.

Anyone with information can call the Dallas office of the FBI at 972-559-5000.

A Dallas school is warning parents about a possible attempted abduction at a nearby restaurant.

According to a letter from St. Monica Catholic School, a mother said a man approached her 10-year-old son Tuesday afternoon outside La Madeline French Bakery & Cafe at Northwest Highway and Midway Road, about a mile from the school.

She and her son had been sitting together, and the man in a gray Toyota Corolla pulled up and repeatedly tried to lure him into the car when she went inside for a brief moment.

The boy ran inside to tell his mother what happened.

By the time they went back outside, the man was gone.

The boy couldn't remember many details but said the man had white hair and his Corolla had a spoiler on the back.

St. Monica on Wednesday sent a letter home to parents about the incident.

Corsicana police say a 2-year-old boy has died after accidentally shooting himself in the head.

Police say Kinzler Davis found his father's handgun and fired it while his father was in another room nearby.

The father called 911 around 8:46 p.m. Wednesday to report the shooting. The boy was transported initially to Navarro Regional Hospital, then moved to Children's Hospital by air ambulance.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner's office contacted Corsicana police after 11 p.m. Wednesday to inform them the child had died.

Officers say the shooting is being ruled an accident.

Corsicana Police Chief Randy S. Bratton said the department will continue to investigate the incident and will refer to the district attorney's office to decide whether to present the case to a grand jury.

Bratton said the department is looking into "making a firearm accessible to a child" as a possible charge, among others, but the determination of charges would be up to a grand jury's decision, if the DA presents the case.

Child Protective Services has been informed of the investigation.

Cellphone video of a Duncanville school district student's rant at a teacher is making rounds on social media.

The original video was taken off YouTube but a posting on another video site has been viewed more than 300,000 times as of 10 p.m. Wednesday. Other versions of the video were reposted to YouTube later.

In the video, the student, identified by YouTube users and other sources as Jeff Bliss, expresses his frustration with the way the Ducanville High School teacher communicates with students.

"If you would just get up and teach them instead of handing them a freaking packet, yo," the student says in the video. "There's kids in here that don't learn like that. They need to learn face to face."

Watch the complete video embedded below:

"I'm telling you what you need to do," the student says in the video. "You want kids to come into your class, you want them to get excited for this? You gotta come in here, you gotta make them excited. You want a kid to change and start doing better? You gotta touch his freaking heart. You can't expect a kid to change if all you do is just tell 'em."

In the video, the teacher tells the student to leave the classroom.

"You've gotta take this job serious," the student continues in the video. "This is the future of this nation. When you come in here like you did last time and make a statement like 'Oh this is my paycheck.' Indeed it is. But this is my country's future and my education."

Late Wednesday night, the Ducanville ISD released the following statement:

"As a district with a motto of engaging hearts and minds, we focus on building positive relationships with students and designing engaging work that is meaningful. We want our students and teachers to be engaged, but the method by which the student expressed his concern could have been handled in a more appropriate way."

The district said it would continue to be open to listening to students.

The school district declined to identify the teacher or student in the video.

DPD: Caller's Accent Hindered 911 Response

Written By Unknown on Rabu, 08 Mei 2013 | 20.41

NBC 5

Dallas police said the 911 call-taker who took a call about a shooting during a robbery had a difficult time understanding the caller and did not hear the words "shot" or "shoot."

A shooting at a West Dallas store was initially classified as a robbery call because the 911 call-taker had a difficult time understanding the caller because of his accent, police said Tuesday.

Joe Cho, the manager of Pepe's Grocery, said officers did not speak to him for more than two hours after he fired shots during a robbery attempt late Sunday night.

Cho told NBC 5 that he fired his pistol twice after four armed men came into the store in the 4800 block of Bernal Drive and demanded money at about 10:55 p.m. He called 911 at about 11 p.m., police said.

But the call-taker had a difficult time understanding him and did not hear the words "shot" or "shoot," police said. Police said the caller had a very heavy accent and was speaking very quickly.

"The delay in response to the call was due to officers already working an active shooter call, a major accident, a burglary in progress at a residence and a shooting on Singleton Boulevard," the police department said in a statement Tuesday evening.

One of the calls was for a shooting victim in the 5800 block of Bernal Drive that turned out to be a suspect in the Pepe's Grocery robbery.

Dallas police said they responded to the robbery call at about 12:14 a.m., but no one was at the store, which was locked. An employee was notified and returned to the store.

Cho said he went home after no officers responded to his 911 call and spoke with officers at about 1:20 a.m.

Police said the responding officers reviewed the store's surveillance video and identified the shooting victim as one of the robbers.

He has been charged with aggravated robbery. The other three men are still at large.

Dallas police said the investigation into the robbery is still ongoing.

NBC 5's Ken Kalthoff contributed to this report.

The frontman of the Grammy-nominated Christian heavy metal band As I Lay Dying was arrested Tuesday, accused of trying to hire someone to kill his wife.

Tim Lambesis, who is the lead singer and co-founder of the San Diego-based band, asked an undercover detective on Tuesday afternoon to murder his estranged wife, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. Authorities said Lambesis was arrested at an Oceanside, Calif., business without incident.

Officials said they learned on May 2 that Lambesis may have solicited someone to kill his wife, who is a resident of neighboring Encinitas. A search of court records has determined that Lambesis' wife, Meggan, filed for divorce in North County last September.

Described as a straight-edged Christian metal band, As I Lay Dying formed more than a decade ago and has released eight albums, including the Grammy-nominated An Ocean Between Us, which came out in 2007, according to band publicity.

The band is also a mainstay of the San Diego Music Awards, nominated last year for Best Hard Rock Album for Decas, and winning for Best Hard Rock the year before that. In 2008, 2007 and 2005, the band took home the SDMA statuettes for Artist of the Year. As I Lay Dying is slated to embark on a cross-country tour with Massachusetts metal band Killswitch Engage later this month.

Lambesis has been charged with solicitation of another to commit murder. He has been booked into the Vista Detention Facility.

Tim Pyles, a DJ at FM94/9 and contributor to NBCSanDiego.com's SoundDiego blog, said that he was "bummed" by the news.

"There's a lot of people who look up to him," Pyles said. "He's just broken a lot of hearts if it's true."

The president of Southern Methodist University has agreed to accept the recommendations of a task force that was charged with improving programs related to sexual misconduct.

The task force made 41 recommendations, including strengthening existing procedures related to student reporting of sexual misconduct and the process for dealing with allegations of sexual misconduct under SMU's Student Code of Conduct.

The newly recommended initiatives include new and more extensive education programs for students, student mentoring and bystander intervention programs.

"SMU is committed to implementing these changes and monitoring our practices," SMU President Gerald R. Turner said.

Several task force recommendations were implemented in 2012, such as expanding information about sexual assault programs on SMU's website.

Turner formed the group last year to examine and improve the university's policies and procedures after five students were sexually assaulted on the campus.

The university was criticized for not being aggressive enough in making other students aware of sexual assaults.

Turner appointed members of law enforcement, medical personnel, students, faculty and staff to the task force.

"Sexual misconduct is a serious issue at universities and colleges nationwide, which are required by the federal government to investigate allegations and hold violators accountable through an internal grievance procedure," Turner said. "Even without such requirements, SMU is committed to policies and procedures that uphold community standards and foster a healthy learning environment based on mutual respect, responsible behavior and fair treatment of all students."

A full report of the task force's recommendations is available online.

In Hospital Ceremony, World War II Vet Weds Sweetheart

Shirlene King thought the moment would never come, but after a 30-year courtship, she finally got her wedding day.

She married her sweetheart of three decades, 88-year-old Jack Wright, on Tuesday.

They were wed in the hallway of the oncology department at the West Los Angeles veterans hospital, where a gravely ill Wright is receiving chemotherapy. Doctors, nurses and friends looked on during the hospital's first-ever wedding.

Despite his serious condition, Wright's humor and devotion were evident.

In response to one of the vows -- instead of answering with the traditional "I do" or "I will" -- Wright answered, "You bet your sweet life."

It was a long time coming for the untraditional couple, and Wright admitted to being "a little teary eyed."

Making the wedding more unusual is that Wright is believed to be the only living survivor of Battle of Guadalcanal during World War II.

He then went on to become a well-known figure in Marina del Rey -- where he lived on his boat and serenaded locals with his accordion. In the harbor, he went by Captain Jack.

One day in 1983, he met the much younger Shirlene King, who is now 57.

"We were at a hot tub party and I was the only one wearing a bathing suit. He swam over to me and said, 'Can I kiss you?' I said no. He swam away, but he never stopped asking."

When Captain Jack became sick, he knew it was time to make it official with his long-time love.

"I have to undergo several treatments. She's been by my side every step of the way," Wright said.

Newlyweds Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wright perhaps prove you're never too old for a happily ever after.

Gas Customers Charged 10 Times Amount of Their Bills

39,000 Atmos Customers Wrongly Billed

Atmos Energy says most of its customers' accounts should be back to normal in the next 24 hours after a major billing mistake charged 39,000 people ten times the amount of their bill.

More Photos and Videos

Tens of thousands of Atmos Energy customers were charged 10 times the amount of their bill on Monday.

The billing glitch affected 39,000 customers signed up for automatic payments in seven states, including Texas.

Atmos withdrew $646.40 from Melissa Alexander's account instead of the actual amount of $64.64. The error led to an overdraft on her account.

"My bank says, 'We're getting calls from other Atmos customers with the same problem,' and there's nothing they can do, so that's where my frustration was," she said.

In a statement, Atmos Energy apologized for the error and said it would reimburse any overdraft fees caused by the error.

Atmos sent Alexander an email at about 5 p.m. that said it would reimburse her for the overcharged amount, as well as any overdraft fees, within 72 hours.

"I put my faith in them doing automatic billing," she said. "They entice you to do that because it's convenient and all that. This is not convenient."

Alexander said she does not plan to continue to pay with automatic withdrawals.

"No, I'll log on and pay my bill myself," she said.

Alan Driggers said $347.40 taken out of his account Sunday night, instead of 34.30, the amount of his actual bill.

"I've seen some other folks, their bill might have been $80 or $100, and they were charged $800 $1,000, so I guess, in the scheme of things, $347 is better than 1,000," he said.

Atmos Energy said the glitch was an isolated error caused by one of its vendors.

Most of its customers' accounts should be back to normal in the next 24 hours, the company said. As of 3 p.m., all but 668 of the overcharges had been reversed.

Amber Alert Canceled for 14-Year-Old

14-year-old Ruby Zavala was found safe Monday afternoon and the man police say abducted her is in custody, 24 hours after the search for her began.

Mount Pleasant Teen At Center of Amber Alert

An Amber Alert is issued for 14-year-old Ruby Zavala. Police say she was taken a knife-point by 23-year-old Jesus Ramirez.

More Photos and Videos

A missing 14-year-old girl was found safe Monday in a field in Winfield, and the man accused of kidnapping her is in custody.

Ruby Zavala, 14, was taken to a hospital after she was found at about 3 p.m. She sustained minor injuries and dehydration, police said.

Police are questioning Jesus Ramirez, 23, the man suspected of abducting Zavala, her mother and her sister from a Mount Pleasant church at knifepoint on Sunday afternoon.

Zavala's family said they are happy she is safe.

"I was just relieved, just relieved," said her aunt, Jessica Palacios. "You've always heard 'hope for the best but expect the worst.' I'm really glad it was for the best and not the worst -- so very, very, very relieved and happy."

Investigators believe Ramirez used Zavala's mother's truck to take the three from St. Michael's Catholic Church in the 1400 block of East First Street at about 1 p.m.

Edgar Zavala said his mother and 3-year-old sister left church services Sunday afternoon and discovered Ramirez holding Ruby Zavala at knifepoint in the parking lot. The Zavalas said Ramirez threatened his mother and sisters and ordered them into the family's truck.

"She went to church. The dude was in the truck already with my sister with her throat and a knife," he said. "She was trying to scream. She said he said, 'Shut up, or I'll kill you. I'll stab you.'"

Edgar Zavala said Ramirez later let his mother and 3-year-old sister go after catching his mother on the phone with her husband, warning him to call police.

The truck Ramirez was believed to have been driving was found wrecked and abandoned in a wooded mining area early Monday morning.

Police got a call at about 1 p.m. about a sighting in the same field where the truck was found. Using cellphone technology, police were able to track down Ramirez and Zavala.

Investigators said Ramirez surrendered and admitted to throwing the knife somewhere in the woods. Police are searching for the knife.

During the search for Ruby Zavala, police said that they did not believe she was with Ramirez willingly.

Her family told NBC 5 that the two had dated but broke it off after Zavala's mother found out about the relationship. The breakup changed the relationship into a violent obsession, Edgar Zavala said.

"He got so mad. He didn't like it, so he was begging my sister, begging my sister," he said. "She got hit by him. It hurts me like it hurts my mom. I never thought it was going to happen right here."

Mount Pleasant Police Chief Wayne Isbell said Ramirez has a criminal record involving children.

"The suspect has already previously been charged with sexual assault of a child before," he said. "We have reason to believe he may be mentally unstable and suicidal."

Ramirez pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony, in 2007. He was given deferred adjudication and spent five years on probation.

He is expected to be charged with aggravated assault and three counts of kidnapping.

NBC 5's Ray Villeda and Kevin Cokely contributed to this report.

Calif. Farm Workers Fired for Leaving Fields During Wildfire

John Cádiz Klemack

Farm workers in Oxnard said they could not breathe during the height of the Springs Fire. Those who walked off the job during the fire were told not to come back to work, but after the United Farm Workers union stepped in, Crisalida Farm offered to rehire the workers -- all but one of whom rejected the offer. John Cádiz Klemack reports from Oxnard for the NBC4 News at 6 p.m. on May 6, 2013.

Strawberry Workers Fired After Leaving Work Because of Fire

As many as 15 workers in Camarillo's strawberry fields left work Thursday, concerned as the fire neared. Nine workers have now filed complaints because they were fired for not staying on the job. Kathy Vara reports from Camarillo for the NBC4 News at 6 p.m. on May 3, 2013.

More Photos and Videos

More than a dozen farm workers in Southern California were out of a job after walking out of the fields last week, forced indoors because of heavy smoke from a massive wildfire burning nearby.

"Oh, yeah, the smoke was very bad. That's no doubt about that," said Lauro Barrajas, of the United Farm Workers.

As the blaze, dubbed the Springs Fire, continued to grow in Camarillo May 2, farm workers 11 miles south in Oxnard said they started to feel the effects of the smoke in the strawberry fields.

The ashes were falling on top of us, one of them explained, adding "it was hard to breathe."

Air quality in the region was at dangerously poor levels and 15 workers at Crisalida Farms decided they could not handle it any longer. They left, even though their foreman warned them they would not have a job when they returned.

When they went back to the fields May 3, the farm fired them.

Barrajas, who is a representative of the UFW, said the workers contacted him for help, even though they were not members of the union.

Union representatives met with the farm's upper management and applied a union rule.

"No worker shall work under conditions where they feel his life or health is in danger," Barrajas said.

In a statement to Telemundo, the farm representative said the workers left without permission while orders still needed to be filled. The company offered to pay them for the hours they'd worked.

Later, the company settled with the union and offered to rehire all 15 workers. But only one worker returned.

The others took jobs on other farms.

One worker said while it hurts to lose work, one's health is more important.

Family "In Shock" After Arrest in Slain Teen Case

Alicia Moore, 16, was reported missing on November 2, 2012.

Moore Family Closes Reward and Memorial Funds

On Monday morning, Alicia Moore's family said they were pulling the reward and memorial fund in the murdered girl's name, saying they're feeling exploited in their time of grief.

Two in Custody Tied to Slain Teen Alicia Moore

NBC 5 has learned exclusive information about two men in custody that have a connection to slain teen Alicia Moore.

More Photos and Videos

Sgt. Steve Walden with the Greenville Police Department confirms authorities have made an arrest in the case of slain Greenville teen Alicia Moore.

Walden did not identify the person arrested, but said additional details would be released soon.

Moore's aunt, Jessica Byrd, would not say who was arrested.

"The family is in shock," Byrd said. "We are not releasing any information at this time."

Alicia Moore was last seen getting off her school bus at about 3:30 p.m. November 2, 2012. Cameras onboard the bus recorded Moore getting on at the high school and exiting at a bus stop near the corner of Bourland and Walnut streets in Greenville -- about a block from her home.

What happened to Moore after she exited the bus is a mystery.  Moore's family notified police of her disappearance that evening.

Question were raised about how police handled her disappearance after authorities initially treated the case as a potential runway.

"I've been the one trying to get the word out -- fliers and stuff," her aunt, Jessica Byrd, said in Nov. 2012. "They (police) didn't really fully get involved until Monday."

Greenville Police Chief Dan Busken said an Amber Alert was not issued because none of the circumstances related to Moore's disappearance met the criteria necessary to issue the alert -- including knowing for certain at the time that she was abducted.

"Early on, we had a very limited amount of information that we had to deal with," Busken said in 2012. "As we went throughout this weekend, we compiled more information."

Greenville Independent School District Superintendent Don Jefferies said the school learned Moore was missing on one day later.  The district attempted to trace her school-issued iPad but determined it had been reset and its tracking was disabled.

At about noon on Nov. 6, 2012, a construction worker found Moore's body in a trunk that had been dumped along Farm-to-Market 47 near a bridge railing four miles north of Wills Point.

Investigators, which include the Greenville Police Department, Texas Rangers and Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office, have remained tight-lipped about the investigation. Investigators have not released the autopsy report that explains how Moore died.

USC Party Host Describes Police Response

Party host Nate Howard describes what happened when LAPD officers responded to a party involving USC students. Toni Guinyard reports for Today in LA on Monday April 6, 2013.

More Photos and Videos

The LAPD has launched investigations into several complaints of excessive force and racial profiling against officers involved in a weekend confrontation with mostly black and Latino students in an incident captured on YouTube.

The cases are being launched in connection with a confrontation that happened overnight Friday at a party hosted by black USC students celebrating the end of finals week.

"We will investigate those complaints vigorously," said Los Angeles Police Lt. Andy Neiman, a department spokesman. "If there is a perception that something was done out of the ordinary or a perception of biased policing, we certainly want to address those concerns right away."

Nate Howard, a USC senior, one of the party hosts, said he was handcuffed, pushed against the wall and put into the back of a squad car after he asked officers what was going on.

"There was no reason for me to be handcuffed, pushed the way I was," he said. "We were just having a good time."

Ola Bayode said as many as six officers grabbed him, threw him to the floor and cuffed him.

"Yeah, I resisted a little bit," he said. "I was just taken aback by their aggressive manner."

Michael Jackson, the vice president of student affairs at USC, said many students are upset and that the college is working with them to "ensure respectful treatment of students at peaceful social gatherings."

John Thomas, the chief of USC's Department of Public Safety, said university police were working with the LAPD to "ensure that the response of LAPD to complaints about student parties is properly calibrated."

Police were called out to the house party at 23rd and Hoover streets, seven blocks north of USC, due to complaints in the community about noise, Neiman said.

The party, which Howard said had a permit, featured a battle of DJs in the backyard.

Police broke up the party about 2 a.m., Howard said.

A YouTube video shows a line of up to 80 officers, some wearing helmets and holding batons, dispersing students in the street.

Some in the crowd threw objects at officers, Neiman said. One officer suffered an injury to his shoulder during a fight with a person who he was arresting, Neiman said.

Six people were arrested, Neiman said.

A second video captured on a cellphone showed turmoil in the backyard of the home as officers ordered people to leave.

Howard said that police had responded that night to another party hosted by white students across the street, but that the students there were ordered to stay "inside the house and stay safe" while officers responded to the party hosted by black students.

The party initially closed down and then started back up while police were shutting down the second party, Neiman said.

Both parties were shut down, Neiman said.

The incident prompted several dozen students to conduct a sit-in at Tommy Trojan at noon on Monday. A community meeting was expected to be held on Tuesday to address the incident.

Investigators believe Ruby Zavala is in serious danger after police say 23-year-old Jesus Ramirez abducted Ruby, her mother, and her sister from a Mount Pleasant church at knife point.

Officers believe Ramirez used the mother's truck to take the three women from Saint Michael's Catholic Church at 1403 E. First St. in Mount Pleasant around 1 p.m. Sunday.

Ramirez later let the mother and Ruby's sister go, but continued on with Ruby Zavala.

Early Monday morning, NBC 5 gathered exclusive video of police recovering the truck Ramirez was believed to have been driving from a wooded mining area. The truck was found wrecked and abandoned. Police are now towing the truck to search for evidence and using search dogs to track the pair.

Mount Pleasant Police Chief Wayne Isbell says police do not believe the teen is willingly with the 23-year-old Ramirez, though they have reportedly dated in the past without her parents knowledge.

Isbell says Ramirez is apparently obsessed with the teen and has a criminal record involving children.

"The suspect has already previously been charged with sexual assault of a child before," Isbell says. "We have reason to believe he may be mentally unstable and suicidal."

Ramirez pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony, in 2007. He was given deferred adjudication and spent five years on probation.

The missing girl is 14-year-old Ruby Zavala. She is 5 feet tall and weighs 120 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a white top, blue jeans and tan shoes.

The suspect is 23-years-old Jesus Ramirez. he is 5 foot, 9 inches tall and weighs 165 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black baseball cap.

If anyone has any information on the whereabouts of Ruby please call 903-575-4004.

Accidentally spending $1 more than usual on Lotto Tickets paid off for a single mother of four in Southern California to the tune of $14 million.

Thuan Le bought her winning SuperLotto Plus last week at a Mission Viejo CVS (map), where she typically buys $4 worth of Powerball tickets and $1 on a SuperLotto Plus ticket.

When Le noticed she accidentally put $6 into the self-service machine, she took her chances on an extra – would-be winning – SuperLotto Plus ticket.

Le checked the winning ticket with her friend. After ticking off the matching numbers one by one, Le was so excited, she ran screaming from the store, according to a news release from California Lottery.

A single mother of four sons, Le said she plans to use her winnings to buy a house, travel and visit her parents in Vietnam.

One of Le's sons thought his mother was kidding when she called, exuberant to share the news.

"We thought she was joking," her son told Lotto officials, "but we thought would she really joke like this? My older brother said, 'yes, she would.'"

Le's lucky numbers were 5, 33, 25, 46, 32, and the Mega number 26. CVS Pharmacy will receive a bonus of one half percent, or $70,000, for selling the winning ticket.

A San Diego-based commercial fishing boat turned into a rescue boat after finding the three men drifting in the ocean two miles off the coast of La Jolla.

One of the victims was unconscious in the water when the crew on the fishing boat found him.

The men had been in the water for hours after their boat capsized according to RJ Hudson, captain of the charter boat New Seaforth.

"We saw a man waving his hands and he looked like he clearly needed some help," said a passenger on the charter boat.

The crew reacted quickly - calling for help and maneuvering for a rescue.

"That crew on board the New Seaforth - they did a heroic job of getting the three people on board their boat in my opinion," said Lt. John Everhart with San Diego Lifeguard Services.

But it wasn't just the crew working to save lives - it was an all hands effort.

"We pulled him on the boat pulled him out of the way a couple other people stared CPR immediately," said Steve, one of the rescuers.

Six people including three registered nurses performed CPR on the unconscious victim, taking turns to keep him alive.

Christina Barrett was one of them.

"It was pretty intense and scary," Barrett said. "He was making movements so we were just yelling at him come on keep breathing."

San Diego lifeguards arrived within 20 minutes and took over first aid as New Seaforth made it back to shore.

"They worked as hard as they could to get him back and he came back and it was good to see him spit some water out and take a breath on his own," Steve said.

Hudson said the victims were a 47-year-old man and his two sons, ages 24 and 18.

Escaped Calif. Mental Health Patient Is in Custody

A mental health patient obsessed by the killings at Sandy Hook Elementary School is in custody after escaping from an Orange County, California facility the day before, authorities said.

Norris Phuoc Nguyen returned to the Royale Health Care Center at 4 p.m. Saturday, said Anthony Bertagna, spokesman for the Santa Ana Police Department.

Friday afternoon, Nguyen walked away from the Royale Health Care Center, where he has been detained since December 2012.

Police said the 23-year-old told them he visited a friend while he was away from the facility, and it does not appear Nguyen committed any crimes while he was gone.

Authorities became familiar with Nguyen -- who has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and repeatedly detained and institutionalized -- in August 2011. At that time, he walked into the Westminster Police Department dressed in camouflage and holding an assault rifle, saying he wanted to "die by cop," Garden Grove Police Chief Kevin Raney said.

The weapon was not loaded, the chief said, adding that Nguyen did not have a permit for the firearm.

Nguyen was questioned, and police found he was fixated on a teacher at an elementary school he had attended in Northern California, Raney said, declining to name the school.

"We have statements and we have the firm belief that he is committed, unfortunately, to harming children at this specific school," Raney said.

Nguyen had been detained periodically since then, Raney said, until it became apparent in interviews with him in December that he was obsessed by the massacre that left 26 dead at a Newtown, Conn., elementary school on Dec. 14, 2012.

Nguyen has spoken repeatedly both about protecting children and endangering them, Raney said.

Nearly two weeks ago, Nguyen's mother, who lives in Huntington Beach, tried to gain custody of her son at a court hearing, but the judge refused to have him released, Raney said.

A man who has threatened young children and is obsessed by the killings at Sandy Hook Elementary School escaped from a mental health facility in Orange County, California, Friday, and police were warning the public to be on the lookout for him.

Garden Grove police said Norris Phuoc Nguyen, 23, poses a danger to the community.

Garden Grove Police Chief Kevin Raney said Nguyen walked away at 4:45 p.m. from Royale Health Care Center at Bristol Street and Warner Avenue in Santa Ana, where he had been detained since December 2012.

Authorities became familiar with Nguyen, who has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and repeatedly detained and institutionalized, in August 2011. At that time, he walked into the Westminster Police Department dressed in camouflage and holding an assault rifle, saying he wanted to "die by cop," Raney said.

The weapon was not loaded, the chief said, adding that Nguyen did not have a permit for the firearm.

Nguyen had been detained periodically since then, Raney said, until it became apparent in interviews with him in December that he was obsessed by the massacre that left 26 dead at a Newtown, Conn., elementary school on Dec. 14, 2012.

Nguyen has spoken repeated both about protecting children and endangering them, Raney said.

"He has written manifestos and other writings that are extremely extensive, extremely descriptive," Raney said. "The thoughts that he is having are real to him and there is, unfortunately, a very strong potential that he will act upon those thoughts."

Ten days ago, Nguyen's mother, who lives in Huntington Beach, tried to gain custody of her son at a court hearing, but the judge refused to have him release, Raney said.

Nguyen is described at 5-foot-8-inches tall, 150 pounds and with black hair and brown eyes. Nguyen is of Vietnamese descent.

He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, a white T-shirt, gray pants and white shoes.

Authorities across Orange County and some state law enforcement were actively searching for Nguyen

A wrong-way driver caused a deadly head-on collision on I-35W in Denton early Saturday morning.  Two people were killed.  Two others were injured.

It happened along I-35W between Crawford Road and FM-2449 near mile marker 81.  The northbound lanes of I-35W were shut down for about four hours.

The person driving the Toyota Highlander could not avoid the Honda Accord coming straight on.  Police say both drivers died on impact.

The Denton Police Department identified the driver of the Honda Accord as 25-year-old Juan E. De La Cruz, Jr. of Illinois. The driver of the Toyota Highlander was Amy Lynne Morrow, 55, Rhome in Wise County.

"Around 6:20 this morning the Denton Police dispatch started receiving several 9-1-1 telephone calls about a driver going southbound in the northbound lanes of traffic on I-35 W," explained Officer Orlando Hinojosa.   "Soon after that, they started receiving telephone calls of a crash, a major crash, involving four vehicles."

An Inifiniti G 35S and Ford Mustang also wrecked trying to avoid the cars in the head-on crash.  Two people were treated and released at a local hospital for minor injuries. The driver of the Infiniti G 35S is Wanda Sue Carter, 41, of Arlington.  The driver of the Ford Mustang is Najwa Francisca Lucre, 33, of Ada, Oklahoma.

A crash reconstruction team spent four hours taking photos, measurements and gathering evidence. Police kept northbound I-35 West between Crawford Road  and FM 2449 closed until around 10:30 this morning.

Officer Hinojosa said it's too early to know if alcohol was a factor in the driver going the wrong way on I-35 W.

The names of the victims have not yet been released to the public.

Police in Forest Hill are working to find out why a vehicle struck a funeral escort riding a motorcycle on Saturday afternoon. The 58-year-old male victim was a private contractor working for a funeral escort company.  He was not a police officer.

It happened around 1:16 p.m. in the 5300 block of Forest Hill Drive at US 287/Mansfield Highway.

Police said the funeral procession was traveling east on Mansfield Highway when a vehicle stopped at a stop sign on Forest Hill Drive pulled onto US 287/Mansfield Highway, hitting the man on the motorcycle.

Officers said the victim was launched 30 feet into the air and landed in the median. One witness told NBC DFW she rushed over after hearing the wreck and tried to perform CPR before paramedics arrived. He was taken to the hospital where he died.

Police have not released the victim's name.

In the vehicle was a couple that police said appears to be in their 70's or 80's.  They were also transported to the hospital as a precaution but did not appear to suffer any serious injuries.

Police spent five hours re-configuring the accident scene to see what exactly went wrong and led to the crash.

On Sunday, members of a Denton County church will hold services without their leader.

Earlier this week, police arrested Denton County Pastor Jeffrey Dale Williams. He's accused of sexual performance on a child, a third-degree felony. He bonded out of jail late Wednesday night.

On Saturday night, The Church of Corinth issued a statement. It reads in part:

Allegations have been made. At this time, they are allegations. And, our Pastor is on a leave of absence. A leave of absence is the best thing we can do for him to give him time to be with his family and to deal with everything going on in his life. Any time, when something like this happens, the impact that it has on everyone is painful. With that pain often comes a response that looks very much like the stages of grief. You may be feeling hurt, afraid, and confused. Many of us will feel angry. Anger is a response that we use to defend ourselves against the hurt, fear and confusion. Some will feel depression. But, with time – and a lot of prayer, we will begin to go through a period where we can begin to heal.

The church said it will have David Fink serve as interim Pastor. The statement also addressed The Church of Corinth's future.

So, what will the future look like at The Church of Corinth? In the short term, the Deacon board will continue to help in the day to day decision process of the operation of the church. We have already been in contact with the leadership of the Assemblies of God about the events of this week and are following their direction as well as getting input from their vast experience and wisdom. Dr. Richard Plunk is here today to represent them. We have and will continue to have their help and support moving forward to follow the best course of action to get through this tough time. As I have already stated, the Deacons have asked David Fink to fill in for us as our interim pastor.

According to the warrant, the incident happened on March 30. The listed address for where the incident happened is 3201 Tower Ridge Drive, which is the church address for the Church of Corinth.

Detectives said there are five audiotapes of Williams with a female juvenile. Officers said they could hear Williams trying to plead and beg the girl for two hours to take off her clothes so he could see some "eye candy."

Cat Lost During Sandy Makes Miraculous Return

NBC10- Ted Greenberg

In the six months since Superstorm Sandy, we've brought you heartbreaking stories of devastation. But this is not one of them, thanks to a lost cat who made an amazing journey back to his family. NBC10 Jersey Shore Bureau reporter Ted Greenberg has the details.

Uranie Roberts only has one way to describe it.

"It's a miracle," she said.

Lost for half a year, her beloved pet cat "Porsche" somehow found his way home.

Last November, Roberts and her family, including Porsche, had to be evacuated by boat from their home in the Chadwick Beach Island section of Toms River after Superstorm Sandy hit the area. The family temporarily relocated to a relative's home in Point Pleasant Borough before returning to Toms River. While the family was in Point Pleasant however, Porsche went missing.

"He got out of the house and that was the last we saw of him," said Carol Baumann, Uranie's daughter.

Baumann believed Porsche was gone for good. That was until Wednesday when she heard the familiar sound of meowing coming from the back deck of their Toms River home. When she walked towards it, she saw something she never thought she would see again.

"I saw the green eyes and I said, 'My God in heaven, it's Porsche!'" said Baumann.

Somehow the cat managed to travel eight miles through storm destruction, traffic and even over a bridge to get back to his original home.

"It's just amazing how he found his way home," said Baumann. "I wish he could talk."

Baumann and Roberts plan to have Porsche checked out by a vet next week. They say however that it doesn't look like he missed many meals in the past six months.

"You could see he was eating," said Uranie. "His fur is sleek and soft."

Whether he's just extremely resourceful or truly does have nine lives, Baumann and Roberts are just glad to have him back.

"It's wonderful," said Baumann. "I missed him so bad."
